Learning challenges
aren't a reflection of your parenting

And they're not a sign that your child isn’t capable.
When reading and writing feels heavy, it usually means something important hasn’t yet been understood.

This keeps support deeply personal and ensures every family receives care and attention they deserve.

Once this founding pod is full, future pods will form by area as demand grows.

Little Learning Secrets is designed for families of bright but misunderstood learners who are losing confidence because learning feels harder than it should. If you’re noticing frustration, worry, or self-doubt creeping in, and you’re looking for calm, expert guidance rather than quick fixes, you’re in the right place. I work with families based in Papamoa and across the wider Tauranga and Mount Maunganui area.

Many parents worry they might be overreacting, especially when their child is coping on the surface or meeting expectations some of the time. You don’t need to wait until things fall apart to seek clarity. If something doesn’t feel quite right, that’s reason enough to explore support.

I proudly support neurodiverse learners and children whose needs don’t fit neatly into one box. My approach is flexible, deeply individual, and grounded in understanding the whole child, not labels or checklists.

Many families come to me feeling quietly discouraged after trying things that didn’t quite fit. My focus is on understanding why learning feels hard and supporting progress in a way that’s sustainable, rather than repeating what hasn’t worked before.

Many families initially search for a reading tutor when their child is struggling. This support goes beyond traditional tutoring. This is specialist literacy intervention paired with personalised parent guidance and a small, high-trust community. Rather than practising skills in isolation, I focus on understanding why learning feels hard and supporting both the child and the parent together. The aim is long-term confidence and clarity, not short-term fixes.

It means your child receives explicit, systematic teaching grounded in structured literacy principles, tailored to how they learn.

This approach is often recommended for children with dyslexia or ongoing reading and spelling difficulties. It focuses on building strong, confident foundations rather than practising skills in isolation.

Yes. I work respectfully and collaboratively alongside schools wherever appropriate. With extensive experience within school settings, I understand how to support children in a way that complements classroom learning and reduces pressure for everyone involved.

The coffee chat is a calm, no-pressure conversation where you can share what’s been worrying you and feel genuinely heard. There’s no judgement, no obligation, and no expectation to commit. Even if we don’t move forward together, most parents leave with greater clarity and reassurance.

No. The coffee chat exists so we can decide together whether this support feels right for your family. There’s space to ask questions, talk things through, and take your time.

Not always, and that matters. I’m thoughtful about fit and will always be honest if I feel another type of support would better serve your child.

Support is intentionally designed to feel doable. You’ll receive clear guidance that fits real family life, not a long list of extra jobs or expectations. The aim is to reduce overwhelm, not add to it.

A parent pod is a small, close-knit circle of families walking a similar learning journey. Many parents tell me that feeling understood and not alone is just as valuable as the intervention itself. Details about pod structure are shared after a coffee chat, once I know the support is the right fit for your family.

A free coffee chat gives you space to
talk it through, with no pressure to decide.

still unsure? that's okay.

Hi, I’m Julie

Every child has a learning story worth understanding.

Little Learning Secrets grew from years spent noticing the quiet signs, the overlooked strengths, and the small shifts that can change a child’s learning story.

I’m an experienced SENCo and literacy specialist with advanced training in psychology and learning differences. I understand both the learning science and the emotional weight families carry.

My role isn’t to tell you what you’re doing wrong.
It’s to notice what’s been missed.
To bring clarity to what feels confusing.
And to guide you forward with calm, evidence-based support that fits real family life.

You don’t need to explain or justify your concerns here.
You’re already understood.
